Kalyani is a new Shmeal cook making Indian food in Lakeview! Get to know her in this cook Q&A and get her “Vegetable Biryani” THURSDAY (6/7) from 7:00-11:00PM!

Q. How did you first learn to cook and what’s your cooking background?

Kalyani: I moved to the United States from India. Within a few weeks, I started missing the authentic Indian food. As people say “Necessity is the mother of invention”, my craving for good Indian food motivated me to learn and cook :). I started with Indian food and then learnt Italian, Mexican and American over time.

Q. What can you tell us about the dish you’re making and what inspired it?

Kalyani: Veg Biryani is a delicious and aromatic preparation of Rice, Vegetables and spices cooked in a traditional Hyderabadi Dum Biryani style. This is the most popular south Indian dish.

Q. Where did you grow up and what kind of food did you grow up with?

Kalyani: I was born and brought up in India. I grew up eating south Indian food.

Q. What’s on your mind when you make this dish?

Kalyani: I want to make my dish with more tasty and wanted to use all the required ingredients in the right quantity.

Q. What’s your favorite way to eat?

Kalyani: I enjoy food in a Buffet as I like to try new food and love varieties.

Q. Anything else we should know about you and your cooking?

Kalyani: Cooking is my hobby and I love to make people enjoy my food.
